As many of you should have know that I’m the boss of Apairose, my very own online store. Some of you knew that I took quite some time to really walk-the-talk, that’s how much I really want to make things happen. Having a great passion for fashion stuff, I’d decided that I need to do something on my side instead of waiting for opportunities to drop from the sky, especially when fashion industry such as retail, isn’t really the No.1 sought after career in Singapore due to long working hours and etc. I am here to say, it’s really not easy, I’ve NEVER live a day without thinking of “today got sales anot?”, “any visitors?” or even “how many likes on Instagram & Facebook?”. The amount of stress might not be written all over my face but it’s definitely lying at the very centre of my heart, somewhere. Sometimes, I breakdown and cry because I think that maybe I’m just not good enough. Nevertheless, I want to encourage people to step out and make a difference in any businesses that you want to build.
1. IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT THE MONEY.
People have been telling me “you got to sell like this, sell like that.. you got to this, you got to that.” They didn’t know that I’m not really into just earning money! I want to advice people on how to dress up, giving them ideas and advices on how to look good. Help them to boost some confidence through my advices. I wanna make an impact. No doubt money does play a part but that’s just not my main purpose why I started Apairose. I don’t want to lose track in anyways.
2. ACCEPT ALL SORTS OF COMMENTS/OPINIONS/ SUGGESTION
I’ve been going around, gathering information on how the different individuals thinks about my webpage, clothes, model and etc. Thankful for some brutally honest comments, some good as well of course. It’s good really it helps me to keep reminding myself that something needs to be change for my 2nd launch! I can clearly say, better things are coming my friend! Pretty proud of my own “artwork” on the website itself hahaha! I’m keeping it opening, throw in more please.
3. GET READY TO BURN YOUR WEEKENDS.
The thing is I thought I was ready for it until I am on it. Organising and planning for photoshoot took me about 2 weeks, especially when you have to fit everyone’s schedule. 2 weekends burnt in a month for just the photoshoot alone. About 2 weeks to QC those pictures and do some editing. Almost on a repeat mode to checking on my inventory, the worst is actually because I still holds a perm full-time job on the other hand.
4. IDENTIFY & ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT’S NOT GONNA BE EASY.
Keeping your mind sane at all times. You’ll get discouraged when you look at those figures. I starts to panic 2 hours right after my launch. Friends all were like “relax, you just launch. People also need to think what, you shop without thinking meh?“. I met a uber driver, a Christian on the 2nd day into my business [pretty discouraged still] and he told me: “Don’t give up on the business until after 3 years, 3 years to gauge whether it’s good or bad. Hang on it for 3 years“. Not sure if you believe, it’s like God is telling me to look far and hang on.
5. CONSISTENTLY HAVE FRESH, NEW IDEAS.
Have been thinking if I were really to hold Apairose for 3 years, change is the constant thing. By keeping up with new ideas, seasons and trend then my business can grow. Marketing plays a pretty huge part as well. This part I haven really have a huge plan yet but I’ll be coming close to it soon.
So, I finally shared my thoughts on how being a boss is like, it is really not easy. Time consuming, money sucking and energy draining process but I believe one day, I’ll see the fruits of my labour because my God is faithful when I’m faithless. My family & love ones are standing with me and I am thankful for each and everyone of them. Chase your dream.
